Benjamin Moskowitz, 91, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 71 years, Grace Roth Moskowitz; daughter, Gayle Schroeder; son Robert Moskowitz, and his wife, Devorah; daughter, Jill Mitcham and many close friends. He had six grandchildren, Sean, and wife, Kathy Schroeder, Stacy Schroeder-Aguilar, Muria Mitcham, Tovah Rachel, and husband, Chiam Perel, David, and wife, Adina Moskowitz, Ezra, and wife, Basya Moskowitz, Easter, and husband, Gershon Lupyan, Avraham Abba, and wife, Yehudis Moskowitz and Sarah Moskowitz. He adored all 14 of his great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Marshall Islands, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines transporting troops onto the beachheads. He was wounded when his boat was hit. He was very proud of his service to his country.
He dedicated 36 years to Congregation Beth Chaverim as the shamash and was a member of the Mended Hearts support group, where he gave hope and encouragement to others.
A funeral service will be held at noon Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Woodlawn Memorial King David Garden. After the service, the family will receive friends at Congregation Beth Chaverim, 3820 Stoneshore Road, Virginia Beach.
