Applying to college triggers all kinds of anxiety, and not just for students.
From applications to scholarships, Virginia Beach City Public Schools want to demystify the process for parents. On Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m., VBCPS will host a free college planning workshop in the Landstown High School auditorium, 2001 Concert Dr.
Melody Cariello, the chair of Landstown’s guidance department, will be on hand for the discussion, according to Dr. Amber Rach, director of community engagement for VBCPS. So will Kelsey Warren, a career coach at Tidewater Community College. Topics will range from college visits and campus tours to college admissions requirements, testing and how to pay for college. Cariello will discuss student recruitment and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Parents must register to attend, as the auditorium only holds 650 people, Rach said.
For anyone unable to make it to the program tonight, a Power Point presentation will be posted afterward on the VBCPS website, Rach said.
