The sudden and immediate shutdown of ITT Educational Services Inc. earlier this week has left more than 500 students at the Norfolk campus without a school, and Virginia Beach’s Tidewater Community College is doing something about it.
“The shutdown of ITT Technical Institute’s Norfolk Campus affected more than 500 current students and an untold number of past students who haven’t completed their degree programs,” TCC said on its website.
TCC is hosting an information session for ITT students on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at its Norfolk campus, 315 Granby St. It will be held in the Andrews Science Building. More information can be found here.
“It’s a sad day when any educational institution closes its doors,” TCC President Edna V. Baehre-Kolovani said in a release. “The students are undoubtedly angry and confused about their options.”
TCC staff from departments such as admissions, financial aid and academic advising will be at the session to discuss academic goals, current academic status, transfer of credits and financial aid options, according to the release. TCC will assess each student’s record individually and determine the transfer scenario that would work best.
TCC offers academic programs similar to those offered by ITT Tech, including accounting, business administration, industrial technology and information technology. A more complete list can be found here.
Students planning to attend Saturday’s information session should bring a photo ID and ITT academic records, including official and unofficial transcripts. Students should also bring a list of courses taken at ITT Tech, including course syllabi or course descriptions, if possible.
Those using the GI Bill should bring the DD Form 214, which is issued on discharge, separation or retirement from military service, and a Veterans Administration Certificate of Eligibility. Veterans should also bring a copy of their Joint Services Transcript, the release said.
