Williamsburg police are searching for a man accused of pulling a gun on a driver during a fit of road rage.
The victim said he was driving on Pocahontas Trail, towards Williamsburg, on Tuesday when he noticed a maroon Dodge Stratus or Nissan Eclipse tailgating him, Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department wrote in an email.
The victim tapped on his brakes to get the other driver to back off, but the driver pulled up beside the victim’s car and pointed a black handgun out of his window at the victim, Riley wrote.
Police searched the York and Powhatan streets area, but weren’t able to find the other driver.
The incident comes three months after two people were shot while driving on Route 199.
A man and a woman were shot in the head on June 4 during a road rage incident on Route 199 at the Mooretown Road overpass, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Jonathan Ray McDonald, 28, of Spotsylvania, Va., was arrested on June 7 in connection to the shootings. He is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, shooting from a vehicle, shooting at a vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
McDonald’s case is scheduled to be heard in York General District Court on Sept. 14.
