VIRGINIA BEACH – Plans are underway for a 282-unit apartment complex with a yoga studio, WiFi cafe and dog park between Newtown and Witchduck roads off Virginia Beach Boulevard.
The developer, Old Dominion Tobacco Company Inc., received approval Wednesday from the Planning Commission on a request to rezone part of its 23.6-acre site west of 5400 Virginia Beach Blvd. The project will go next to the City Council.
The plan is to construct 10 three-story apartment buildings, mostly with one- and two-bedroom units, according to a city staff report. The units will be centered around a large retention pond, which will feature four decks that extend over the water. The apartment design includes fiber-cement siding with alternating colors of coral, tan and white. A row of grey bricks will decorate the base of the buildings.
The proposed clubhouse, made with cedar siding and dark black brick, will include indoor and outdoor pools, an outdoor fireplace and a grill area. A yoga studio, coffee bar, WiFi café and game room will also be available for community use.
Outdoor features include a dog park, playground and dining area. The complex will offer 562 parking spaces. Occupants and visitors would access the gated site from Virginia Beach Boulevard, which would provide a right-in, right-out access point.
Old Dominion Tobacco Company operates a distribution facility on the southern portion of its roughly 24-acre site; it intends to retain that facility and rezone the remaining 16 acres for the apartment complex, the staff summary said.
