First Colonial and Landstown advanced to the boys soccer 6A South region tournament in different but impressive manners.
The Patriots finished unbeaten in regular season Coastal Conference play, earning the conference’s No. 1 seed and an automatic region berth. The Eagles entered the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed, needing to win it all to advance to regions. They did, beating the Patriots and second-seeded Ocean Lakes in a marathon match Thursday.
Landstown at Grassfield, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
The Eagles are underdogs once again, but as they showed in their conference tournament, they don’t care what their seed is. Landstown will ride a defense anchored by its brilliant net-minder, Andrew Harrison, and hope to generate enough chances at the net to take the pressure off its back line.
Western Branch at First Colonial, 7 p.m. Tuesday
The Patriots dominated their regular season match against the Bruins, beating them 4-1. First Colonial is coming off its only loss of the season, to Landstown in overtime in the conference semifinals. It’s hard to see the Patriots’ high-powered offense getting shutdown for two straight games, the second time against a team they handled just three weeks ago.
