VISA sailing state championship results and all-state honors

Local sailors completed five windward-leeward races in both A and B divisions in the VISA State Fleet Race Championship on Saturday at Mill Creek in Hampton.

Christchurch School Team 1 took first place, followed by Christchurch School Team 2 in second and Norfolk Collegiate Team 1 in third. The Oaks’ second team finished fourth, while Nansemond Suffolk Academy placed fifth.

Highly variable rain and winds with occasional gusts up to 17 miles per hour challenged the competitors, according to a summary provided by Alan Bomar, a member of the board of directors of Youth Sailing Virginia.

In other sailing news, many Southside sailors were recognized with VISA all-state awards.
