Baseball Update: Conference seeds up for grabs

First Colonial (17-1, 10-1 Coastal): The Patriots beat Kellam on Saturday to capture the Coastal Conference’s regular season crown and an automatic berth in the 6A South Region tournament. First Colonial closes regular season play Tuesday, when it looks to sweep the season series against Ocean Lakes.

Kellam (12-6, 6-3 Coastal): The Knights control their destiny for a chance at the Coastal’s No. 2 seed and better tournament positioning. If Kellam wins-out against Cox (twice) and Bayside this week, it’ll secure have that seed, as it has already banked a series sweep against Ocean Lakes.

Ocean Lakes (11-6, 5-3 Coastal): The Dolphins can even the season series against the Patriots this week and hope to squeeze in to the Coastal’s No. 2 seed if they win their next two games against Tallwood and the Knights lose.

Cox (9-9, 6-4 Coastal): A big series against Kellam this week will have major implications for the final conference seeds. If the Falcons can sweep the Knights, along with a major Ocean Lakes hiccup (Cox is 0-2 against the Dolphins), they can launch into the No. 2 seed.

Green Run (8-10, 4-4 Atlantic): Whether the Stallions advance to the post-season could depend heavily on how they do in two games this week against Kempsville. With Hickory, Maury, and Indian River set up for the Atlantic Conference’s top three seeds, Green Run needs to close strong for a chance at the fourth and last spot.
