World War II aircraft will bring the 1940s to Virginia Beach in May

World War II aircraft will fly above Virginia Beach this May in the Military Aviation Museum’s annual Over the Beach Air Show.

The event is May 21-22 at the Military Aviation Museum at 1341 Princess Anne Road. The show will feature World War II aircraft flights and wartime camp re-enactments. It will also include a music performances from a Frank Sinatra tribute performer, the New Orleans vocal trio The Victory Belles, and jazz vocalist Theresa Eaman.

Food vendors will also be on site.

The museum’s new Messerschmitt Bf-109 will fly in the show, making its first flight in the U.S., according to a press release. Attendees will be able to shop at an onsite flea market for aviation-themed goods.  Saturday evening will feature live music in the hangar by the Mark Michielsen Big Band, and a chicken or steak dinner for an additional $20.

A Saturday admission ticket also offers access to the dedication ceremony for the museum’s latest addition — the control tower from the first American fighter base in England in 1942. The ceremony will run from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday and include a fly-over by Air Force training jets, formations by the Royal Air Force and U.S. Air Force, and the Civil Air Patrol on color guard.

The air show will run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets begin a $12 for youth and $25 for adults.
