WILLIAMSBURG — Anheuser-Busch announced Thursday it is investing $5.8 million into its Williamsburg brewery to increase production of Michelob ULTRA, a light beer the company says is among its top-selling brands, and build a new technical skills training center for employees.
According to the company, the Williamsburg brewery investment will help expand production capacity for Michelob ULTRA and fund a new on-site training center aimed at improving technical and manufacturing skills among employees.
“This investment in our Williamsburg Brewery allows us to continue producing the highest-quality, American beers we have crafted for generations, while supporting jobs and economic growth in the communities where we operate,” said Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch, in a statement.
The company said the training center will be one of 15 planned nationwide and will provide instruction in technical fundamentals, digital systems, management systems and mechanical and electrical maintenance. Anheuser-Busch said it plans to train more than 90% of its manufacturing workforce over the next five years.
Tom Jokerst, general manager of Anheuser-Busch Williamsburg Brewery, said the facility has operated in Williamsburg since 1972.
“This $5.8 million investment demonstrates our ongoing dedication to brewing excellence and is the latest example of Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to supporting our local economy, building the workforce for the future and strengthening career opportunities for veterans on our team,” he said.
The brewery also partners with the Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America program, which helps veterans and active-duty service members transition into manufacturing careers. According to the company, nearly 20% of the Williamsburg brewery workforce are veterans or active service members.
Anheuser-Busch has invested nearly $50 million in the Williamsburg brewery over the past five years, according to a company news release.
The company will host a public event May 30 at the brewery celebrating Budweiser’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th birthday. The event will include local food vendors, lawn games and an appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales.
