Lackey Free Clinic Official Inducted into Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg
Lackey Free Clinic’s director of development Gavin S. Maffett was inducted into the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg at a Jan. 21 dinner at the Williamsburg Lodge.
The dinner was held with two other Kiwanis clubs to celebrate the organization’s 100th birthday. Kiwanis is an international service organization that raises money and volunteers to help build communities and serve children.
Maffett, described in a news release announcing his induction as a “highly effective fundraiser,” currently works for the Lackey Free Clinic. The clinic features a pharmacy, a dental clinic, group services and much more, serving thousands of patients in the Historic Triangle.
Prior to joining the clinic, Maffett served as the vice president for advancement and associate professor of education at Cumberland University in Tennessee.
While there, he oversaw philanthropic activities for programs including business, education, liberal arts, music and nursing.
He has also worked as the vice president for institutional advancement and college relations at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. His work there helped Meharry raise more than $125 million.
His career in higher education also included a stint as associate dean for development at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. While there, he created a program that resulted in 20 endowed chairs and professorships. He has also worked in development for Yale University.
