Outdoor Entertainment
Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center are hosting “A Colonial Christmas” for a look at 17th- and 18th-century holiday traditions this month. Although closed Thursday for Christmas Day, there are special tours and interpretive programs for the rest of the weekend, along with musical entertainment. Learn more about programs here.
James City County Parks and Recreation’s Iceburg skating rink is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The synthetic ice rink, which moved this year from New Town to Mid County Park, has special winter break hours while the kids are home from school.
There will be a traditional 18th-century seasonal celebration Saturday evening, with the illumination of the Palace Green in Colonial Williamsburg. In addition to the candle lights, there will be musket fire and music by the Fifes and Drums, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the George Wythe House.
Plays and Music
A romantic comedy at the Kimball this weekend supports Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels. “Same Time Next Year” explores the 25-year love affair of a couple who meet once a year from the 1950s to 1970s. Shows start at 8 p.m. Friday through Tuesday.
Head to Hennage Auditorium at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg on Saturday for “Swinging on a Star: A Tribute to the Local USOs and the Troops of World War II.” The 4 p.m. program focuses on the effort of area residents to serve those far from home during the war.
Browse or Buy
Shop around at the monthly flea market at the Historic Triangle Messmer Community Services Center. From 7 a.m. to noon, there will be more than 25 vendors offering antiques, artwork, furniture, collectibles, jewelry, quilts and more.
For Bibliophiles
Take the little ones to Story Hour at the William & Mary Bookstore. Starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, there will be snacks, crafts and a literary tale.
Also on Saturday, the William & Mary Bookstore will host Mac Laird signing copies of his latest book. Laird will sign “Christanna” from 2 to 6 p.m.
