The York County School Board recognized four seniors in the school division Dec. 15 for their outstanding contributions to their community and their schools.
Every month during the school year, YCSD recognizes seniors from each of the school division’s four high schools for their exceptional achievements in academics and community involvement to receive the Senior of the Month Award. The Seniors of the Month for December are:
Oronde Andrews of Bruton High School
Andrews has shined as an athlete at Bruton, running on the track and field team for all four years of high school. He has also taken on leadership roles at Bruton, participating in the school’s Key Club and attending the Governors School for Science and Technology.
Andrews has matched his on-field performances with excellence in the classroom, maintaining a 4.24 GPA and receiving academic high honors each year of high school.
In his free time, Andrews supports his community, volunteering at his church.
Jay Fox of Grafton High School
Fox marches to the beat of his own drum, leading the percussion section of Grafton’s Symphonic Marching Band. Fox has stood out as a musician, performing with the Grafton jazz band, symphonic band and wind ensemble, which was selected to perform at the Virginia Music Educators Conference.
Fox has also excelled as an athlete, keeping goal on Grafton’s varsity soccer team and the Virginia Legacy travel soccer team that won the Under-17 CCL state championship in October.
Casey Jutras of York High School
Jutras has established herself as a leader at York, participating in the school’s National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Jutras is also passionate about music, performing in the York choral program and earning induction into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She has been chosen to perform with the Virginia Music Educators Association all-district chorus every year of high school.
Jutras also stands out as an athlete at York, playing on the girl’s tennis team, where she has made herself a leader in the clubhouse.
Bryan Moon of Tabb High School
Moon has stood out academically at Tabb, maintaining a 4.379 GPA and earning distinction as an AP Scholar. Moon has also excelled on the athletic field, captaining the golf, indoor and outdoor track and cross-country teams. He was a member of the state champion 4×800 meter relay team as a junior and also plays lacrosse for Tabb.
His musical skills have also earned him recognition, performing with the Tabb band for four years, and gaining selection for the all-district band and as an alternate for the all-state band. His achievements have earned him a trip to Virginia Boys State and Eagle Scout recognition.
