
For her extended tenure serving area schools, Barbara Haywood received the Quarter Century Award from the Virginia School Boards Association.
Haywood, a member of the York County School Division board, was given the honor at the VSBA’s Annual Convention on Wednesday to mark 25 years of service.
Ron Whitehead from Giles County School Board also earned a Quarter Century Award.
“It is an honor to present Mrs. Haywood and Mr. Whitehead with the VSBA Quarter Century Award,” said Gina Patterson, executive director of the VSBA, in a news release. “Their dedication to the youth in their communities and the Commonwealth of Virginia is admirable.”
New Town Dental Arts Donates Halloween Candy to Troops
In its seventh year, the Treats for Troops drive collected unopened Halloween candy to send to the nation’s military.

Held by New Town Dental Arts, this year’s drive was supported by the Matoaka Elementary School PTA, which gave more than 300 pounds of treats.
All candy went to U.S. troops and the local USO.
