Get Schooled: York County School Division Names November Seniors of the Month

Get Schooled IanAt the school division’s Nov. 17 school board meeting, four York County students were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their schools and to the community.

YCSD Seniors of the Month

Each month, the York County School Division recognizes seniors from each of the county’s four high schools for their exceptional achievements in academics and school involvement to receive the Senior of the Month Award. The Seniors of the Month for November are:

Rachel Bloxom of Grafton High School

Bloxom has shined as an athlete for Grafton, running cross-county and indoor and outdoor track and field for her four years at the school. Her achievements on the track have earned her All-Conference, All-Region and All-State honors. Bloxom accepted an offer to run cross-country and track at the College of William & Mary next year.

Bloxom also stands out in the classroom, maintaining a 4.66 GPA, and gaining induction to the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and French Honor Society. She has also earned highest honors for her academic performance throughout her tenure at Grafton.

Christopher Dollesin of York High School

Dollesin has excelled academically at York High, participating in the International Baccalaureate program, gaining induction into the National Honor Society and French National Honor Society, and being named a 2015 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.

Dollesin has also established himself as a leader at the high school, serving as drum major of the York High School band and president of the Music Honor Society. He also received the William & Mary Leadership Award as a junior.

In his free time, Dollesin mentors middle school students in music, blogs about aviation and interns at the Newport News/Williamsburg Airport.

Kaela Frazier of Bruton High School

Frazier has been an active leader during her time at Bruton, serving as president of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the DECA Club, and receiving the West Point Society of Williamsburg 2014 Leadership Award. She has also stood out academically, earning a 4.71 GPA, receiving high academic honors each year at Bruton, and attending the Governors School for Science and Technology in the Engineering strand. She is currently completing an internship with NASA.

Frazier has also excelled at athletics, playing field hockey and softball for each of her four years at Bruton. She also captained the softball team as a junior.

In her free time, she volunteers at Sentara Hospital and through her church volunteer program.

Meredith Young of Tabb High School

Young has combined athletic achievement and academic performance as a student at Tabb High. She maintained a 4.499 GPA, was named an AP Scholar with Distinction and is a member of five honor societies. She has also taken on leadership roles at Tabb, serving on student council for four years and as Key Club vice president for two years. Last year, Young was selected as one of six junior girls to attend Virginia Girls State.

A three-sport athlete, Young has also stood out on the athletic field. She has been a member of the varisty cross-country, track and lacrosse teams at Tabb.

Young is also involved in extracurricular activities at Tabb, playing in the Tabb marching and symphonic bands, and acting in school musicals and one-act plays.
