Best-selling author Adriana Trigiani, who penned “The Shoemaker’s Wife and “Big Stone Gap,” will speak locally at an event to help raise money for literacy programs in Greater Williamsburg.
Trigiani will present at Literacy for Life’s annual Reading Between the Wines fundraiser scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at The College of William & Mary’s School of Education.
The southwest Virginia native will discuss her books — 15 in total — along with the upcoming film adaptation of “Big Stone Gap,” which stars Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Jane Krakowski, Jenna Elfman and Whoopi Goldberg. The project, written and directed by Trigiani, is currently in post-production.
Reading Between the Wines benefits nonprofit Literacy for Life. In addition to teaching literacy skills to adults in Greater Williamsburg, the organization promotes self-sufficiency through classes, tutoring and one-on-one instruction on a range of subjects.
Its annual benefit gala will feature hors d’oeuvres and, as billed, wine. There will also be a live and silent auction, with items including an antique pearl and diamond ring, tickets and pit access at a NASCAR race at Richmond International Raceway, and dining at a number of area restaurants.
