Theater, Music and Dance

William & Mary Theatre opens its season with the production “Big Love” this weekend. Inspired by the Greek play “The Suppliants” by Aeschylus, “Big Love” puts a modern twist on the story of a group of young women fleeing Greece to escape the confines of arranged marriages. The production is recommended for ages 17 and up, and shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Fourteen high school marching bands from across the state will take the field at Wanner Stadium on Saturday. They will perform in the fifth annual Warhill Classic. They start performing at 3:30 p.m., with an awards ceremony for the competition at 9:30 p.m.

Dance the night away with the Williamsburg chapter of USA Dance on Saturday. The group holds a regular lesson and dance on the first Saturday of every month. October’s will be held at Quarterpath Recreation Center, with the lesson starting at 7:30 p.m. followed by dancing until 10:30 p.m.

Nancy Scimone, a Catholic performing artist, will present her one-woman drama on the life of Saint Faustina. Scimone uses excerpts from the Polish nun’s diary to tell a story, interspersed with sacred song. The performance starts at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Bede’s Catholic Church.

Williamsburg National Golf Club hosts Walsingham Academy’s annual golf tournament Friday. Lunch, included with registration, starts at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon.

Keep swinging Saturday, when Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue will hold a tournament at Kiskiack Golf Club. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the Captain’s Choice play begins at 9 a.m. Single golfers are welcome, and there will also be raffles and other prizes.

Tribe Athletics

Tribe Field Hockey takes on Towson on Friday evening. The game starts at 6 p.m. at Busch Field.

The William & Mary volleyball team will play at 7 p.m. Friday in Kaplan Arena, against the College of Charleston. The team returns to serve against Elon at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Cheer on men’s soccer as they take on Drexel. They play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Martin Family Stadium.

This and That

A consignment sale for children’s items comes to King of Glory Lutheran Church on Friday and Saturday. There will be a wide selection of new and gently used clothing for all ages, as well as baby equipment, strollers, high chairs, books, toys and more. Open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, the program benefits local families in need.

The East Coast Healthy Lifestyle Expo will focus this year on bone and joint health. At the Holiday Holiday Inn & Suites Williamsburg-Historic Gateway, it starts at 2 p.m. Friday and runs through Saturday afternoon.
