Online Booklet Connects Youth with Nonprofit Volunteer Opportunities

network bookletThe latest edition of a local guide for student service is now available online.

NetworkPeninsula, an organization that works to support area nonprofits through training and networking, has released “2014/2015 Youth Resource Booklet: A Student’s Guide to Volunteering on the Peninsula.”

The booklet contains information on service opportunities at 30 nonprofits throughout Greater Williamsburg, Yorktown, Gloucester-Mathews, Newport News and Hampton. The volunteer spots are available for students of all ages over the course of year, and users can search the booklet by type of opportunity, field of interest, minimum age requirements, time of year and more.

The document links directly to the websites of nonprofit organizations where students can learn more about each.

“This booklet has proven to be a valuable resource for students and their parents, as well as for advisors of local Key Clubs, Honor Societies, youth groups, and others,” said Karen Dutro, executive director of NetworkPeninsula, in a news release.

The tool also includes scholarship opportunities for students involved in community service, along with a section on collection drive ideas.

“Students’ schedules can often be so full, some may not have time to dedicate a given amount of hours. Collection Drives are an easy but very valuable way that schools, youth groups, or student groups can help a local nonprofit,” Dutro said in the release.
