Three Locals Named Virginia Certified Horticulturists

gardenersThree area residents have demonstrated their green thumbs and been recognized by a state trade association.

Trey Watford, Greg Whetzel and Aaron Williams were among 85 nursery and landscape professionals recently named Virginia Certified Horticulturists by the Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association.

The trio are deemed qualified to offer up-to-date and scientifically sound services and advice for local landscapes and gardens. To earn the title, they had to pass a four-hour exam, covering a range of subjects from botany to insects, and once certified must have at least 30 hours of training before renewing in three years.

“Having someone with this breadth of expertise and know-how in their community allows residents and businesses to confidently seek advice and assistance as they improve Virginia’s green landscape,” said VNLA Executive Director Jeff Miller in a news release.

The distinction also assures consumers of the credibility and knowledge of a business or its employees, as well as gives companies a standard for evaluating current and potential employees.
