Baxter Carr loves playing bocce ball on his many trips to Florida, but missed the game when back home at WindsorMeade of Williamsburg.
Carr’s hopes for a local course have been answered, thanks to a donation from James River Grounds Management.
The company is donating its time, labor and resources to WindsorMeade to build a bocce ball court in one of the senior living community’s outdoor courtyards.
“My wife and I spend a lot of time in Florida, and bocce ball has been a part of life for folks there for a long time. I wanted our friends here in Williamsburg to get involved in the fun,” Carr said in a news release.
The game, played with plastic balls on a 60-foot wide course, will be open to WindsorMeade residents.
“We are happy to contribute to the endeavor of fostering healthy lifestyles and a sense of community for all ages here in Williamsburg,” said Jason Knight, James River Grounds Management’s vice president and chief operating officer, in the release.
The community will celebrate a ribbon-cutting for the court at 11 a.m. Friday. All local bocce ball enthusiasts are encouraged to come to the ceremony and play in the opening games.
The court contributes to WindsorMeade’s mission of enhancing the quality of life for the area’s older citizens.
“At WindsorMeade we know that an active lifestyle is integral to good health and improved longevity and quality of life. We couldn’t be more pleased with what James River Grounds has provided for the WindsorMeade community,” Executive Director Marilyn Gray said in the release.
