Five new members are joining the 2014-2015 Board of Trustees for the Williamsburg Community Foundation. Its new trustees are Ellin Gordon, Ronald E. Lodzieski, Albert O. Louer, Eric McDonald and Howard Smith.

Started in 1999, the foundation has awarded $3 million in grants to nonprofits throughout the Historic Triangle.

Gordon, who grew up in New York City, was previously president of the board of trustees of the Rye Country Day School. Locally, she volunteered at Colonial Williamsburg and in the admissions office of the College of William & Mary, and also opened Gordon/Knudson educational consultants in Williamsburg.

Lodzieski retired to the area from Singapore in 2002, after five years of active duty in the Navy and a 30-year career with Citibank that took him all over the world. He has served as past board chairman for Olde Towne Medical Center, president of the Governors Land Home Owners Association and member of Colonial Williamsburg’s President’s Council, and is now a William & Mary executive partner.

A William & Mary graduate, Louer has worked in public relations and development for Colonial Williamsburg, where he is now the foundation’s principal gift officer. He sits on the board for WHRO and Thomas Nelson Community College.

McDonald has been active in international trade for 25 years, and currently works with Virginia companies to export their goods and services. A Williamsburg native and member of the Fifes and Drums Corps as a child, he returned to the area after years away.

Smith was raised in Williamsburg and is a graduate of Bruton High School. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps before establishing the Oleta Coach Lines Inc. bus company in the area. A former driver for the athletics department of William & Mary, Smith was named an honorary alumnus by the school’s Alumni Association in 2007.
