While the Virginia Symphony Orchestra plays tonight before Colonial Williamsburg’s fireworks fanfare, the ensemble is also gearing up for a summer of musical programs.
VSO will play two more free outdoor concerts in August, as well as host a cabaret-style fundraiser in September that allows patrons to get up close and personal with musicians.
The symphony, which was founded in 1920 and serves the southeastern region of Virginia with performances and educational programming, will play Aug. 28 at Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre on the College of William & Mary campus.
On Aug. 30, VSO will play at 331 Water St. in Yorktown. Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pack a picnic for the 18th annual performance under the stars. Before the symphony’s downbeat, the Yorktown Fifes and Drums will provide entertainment starting at 6 p.m.
Both concerts start at 7:30 p.m. and feature highlights from the 2014-2015 season under the baton of Benjamin Rous.
VSO Unplugged comes to Wessex Hall at the Williamsburg Winery on Sept. 5. Director JoAnn Falletta will host the fifth annual event, which features pianist Prisca Benoit and clarinetist Sal Andolina.
There will also be a silent auction with wine, vacation packages and VSO offers.
Tickets are $150 for VIP premium table seating with a guest artist, $120 for table seating and $65 for general admission. Price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine, and all proceeds support the VSO.
