Hometown: Festival of Taste on the James to Benefit Meals on Wheels

MOWEnjoy a meal Friday night to help combat hunger issues in the community.

The Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels presents Festival of Taste on the James, a benefit dinner at the Jamestown 4-H Educational Center, starting at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

WAMOW delivers nutritious meals daily to about 500 people in the area who cannot provide for themselves due to age, disability or other inability to shop for themselves. Started in 1974 locally, the organization also offer education and social interaction for those in need.

The event is billed as a casual evening of culinary delight, where guests can feast on the creations of local esteemed chefs while gazing up the James River. The cooks hail from as far as Richmond and Virginia Beach, and the lineup includes returning favorites and newcomers.

This year’s chefs are:

  • Tom Power, Fat Canary
  • David Everett, Blue Talon Bistro, The Trellis, and DoG St. Pub
  • Chad Martin, Circa 1918
  • Hans Schadler, Waypoint Grill
  • Daniel Abid, Le Yaca
  • Travis and Ryan Croxton, Rappahannock Oyster Co.
  • Walter Bundy, LeMaire at The Jefferson Hotel
  • Sam Edwards, S. Wallace Edwards & Sons Hams
  • Gail Hobbs, Caromont Farms Goat Cheese

There will also be a variety of wines and unique cocktails for guests. Music will be provided by The Right on Band, and raffle tickets will be available as well.

Tickets are $100 each, which could provide more than 20 meals for WAMOW clients.
