Charles Ferrell Provides 30 years of Service to York County

York County’s Stormwater Maintenance Operations Supervisor was honored for reaching a 30-year milestone.
Charles Ferrell supervises a three-man crew responsible for cleaning stormwater ditches by hand. They maintain an average of 400 ditches per year. Ferrell and the crew remove an average of 30 tons of debris per year, walking miles of ditch line in the course of the program.
Ferrell also works weekends and holidays for the Waste Management division.
“Charles continues to receive compliments on his job performance, his positive attitude and the courtesy he shows to the citizens and his fellow employees,” said Stormwater Division chief Connie Bennett in a news release.

New Officers for Area Volunteer Administration Group
The Greater Williamsburg Association for Volunteer Administration recently held their luncheon to install officers. In addition to the installation GWAVA members gathered at Sal’s by Victor to discuss National Volunteer Week – April 6 through the 13 – and network with colleagues.

GWAVA provides administrators of volunteer services with opportunities to further a career in volunteer administration, improve skills, enhance professionalism, and exchange ideas and information. The group seeks to broaden community awareness of volunteerism and encourages involvement of volunteers in community service organizations, agencies, and institutions.

Flag Raising at Williamsburg Landing

Williamsburg Landing recently held an American Flag Raising Ceremony at the newly installed flagpole at Earl’s Court. The observance began with an invocation by resident Rev. Harold McKeithen and was followed by the Raising of the Colors by the U.S. Marine Color Guard, Bravo FAST Company, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment at the Naval Weapons Station.
Bob Spencer, president of the Williamsburg chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, presented Williamsburg Landing president and CEO Steve Montgomery with a Certificate of Commendation.
Residents John and Bea Paradis donated the flag. Sharon Smith sang The Star-Spangled Banner and resident Marge Tongue performed America the Beautiful.
Groups Support Annual Golf Tournament for Charity
Ford’ s Colony Men’s Golf Association has pledged its support to Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center for the 19th year.

Middle Peninsula Insurance and Financial Center also supported the effort as the OTMDC Tournament Sponsor for the May 8 event of golf, dinner, raffles and prizes. More than 180 golfers,volunteers and guests are involved, with seven major corporate sponsors and more than 50 local business supporters.
The tournament has raised more than$615,000 to date for needed medical and dental services in Greater Williamsburg. For 2014 sponsorship opportunities contact Pete Deeb, Ford’s Colony MGA at 876-8307.
