Arts Month
New Town is participating in Arts Month, which features events throughout September around the Historic Triangle as a lead-up to the 45th annual An Occasion for the Arts next week. Head to New Town around noon Saturday when artists will create art pieces out of chalk in Sullivan Square. Anyone can participate for $10. Artists can range from youths to amateur to professionals. Percussionist Jae Sinnett, along with bassist Terry Burrell and pianist Allen Farnham, will perform jazz concerts from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Williamsburg Regional Library. Tickets cost $16 for adults, $14 for Friends of Williamsburg Regional Library members and students, and $8 for children under 17 years old. Call 757-259-4070 to reserve tickets. Celebrate an Evening of Art and Music to benefit An Occasion for the Arts and the Williamsburg Symphonia. The event is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. See the calendar listing for more.
Film and Music
Watch aspiring performers at Williamsburg’s Got Talent, a talent competition that benefits the Williamsburg Land Conservancy. The competition begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Kimball Theatre. General admission tickets cost $35. Tickets for children under 12 years old cost $25.
Williamsburg Regional Library rounds out September’s Thursday Afternoon Film Series with “Knute Rockne, All American,” a 1940 film featuring Pat O’Brien and Ronald Reagan. The biopic follows the life of famous Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne. Find out more on the calendar.
Steel River Band will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday as part of the Rhythms on the Riverwalk concert series. The concert series, which runs each Friday through Oct. 5, is free to the public at Riverwalk Landing. Check out the calendar for more details.
Family Fun
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Yankee Candle Villages, the Williamsburg Yankee Candle Factory is hosting the fourth annual Village Festival. The free event will feature sampling, a petting zoo, Giggles the Clown and hayrides. Find out more information on our Talk the Town calendar.
Farmer’s Markets
The Toano Farmers Market provides will provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables Saturday. The market will be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at the corner of Forge and Richmond roads in Toano. The calendar has more details.
Also on Saturday, the Williamsburg Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 a.m. until noon. Local produce can be found at the market that’s located in Merchants Square at 402 W. Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg. See the calendar for more details.
At Yorktown Market Days, open Saturdays until Sept. 28, shoppers can find fresh meat, seafood, baked goods and more. The market is located at 425 Water Street in Yorktown and opens at 8 a.m. See the calendar for more details.
