One in one thousand – it’s the chance that researchers at NASA gave asteroid 1999 RQ36 to hit the earth in the year 2182. It’s the chance contestants had to win the grand prize on the popular TV game show “Deal or No Deal.”
It’s also the number of people who get a perfect score on the ACT, and 16-year-old senior Daniel Brause of Walsingham Academy is one of them – and he did it on his first try. But he doesn’t want to make a big deal of it.
“I try not to bring it up at school,” Brause said. “But I know the teachers had the ACT data sent to them, so they know.”
Brause is an exceptional student – so exceptional he skipped the third grade. He’s especially good at math, as he ran out of math classes at the school and started taking them at the College of William & Mary. This year he’s taking linear algebra at the prestigious college.
He took the SAT for the first time in seventh grade, but this is the first time Brause took the ACT. He said he took plenty of online practice tests, but don’t ask him for study tips.
“When people ask me how to study, I don’t know how to answer,” he said. “I just felt like I knew stuff.”
