The Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance has awarded five scholarships to members of the local military community.

The Alliance’s Armed Forces Committee gave scholarships to Sonya Marker, Joanna Odenthal, Jonathan Reid, Emily Bessler and Erlyn Lavery. Three of the scholarship winners are from Williamsburg; the other two live on base at Fort Eustis.

The scholarships total $2,000, which is disbursed among the recipients.

“[The scholarships are] one way that the Alliance helps recognize and support our military community for the service they give our nation,” according to a release from the Alliance.

The Alliance’s Armed Forces Committee offers a scholarship program each year to support active duty military, active duty dependents, retired military and honorably discharged military personnel.
