James City County has received funds to help first-time qualified homebuyers purchase homes with low-interest rate financing. JCC Labor Day Closings
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, James City County offices, facilities and libraries will close Monday.
County offices, James City County Recreation Center, James River Community Center, the Interpretive Center at Freedom Park, convenience centers and courts will also be closed.
The library will be closed Sunday and Monday.
The Garbage Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday.
VHDA Gives Funds for First-time JCC Homebuyers
The Virginia Housing Development Authority has awarded a $1.08 million allocation of low-interest rate financing to the James City County Office of Housing and Community Development.
The funds will be used to assist six qualified first-time homebuyers in purchasing new homes in the Ironbound Subdivision. Interested first-time homebuyers with household incomes of $33,000 to $100,800 should call OHCD at 757-259-5340 or visit the office’s website.
New homes in the subdivision are priced between $153,000 and $186,800 and homes have between two and four bedrooms.
The interest rate on loans using VHDA funds will be one-half percent lower than VHDA’s standard homebuyer loan rates; homebuyers may be eligible for assistance with down payments and closing costs. The VHDA loan funds will be available for loans reserved before June 30, 2014.
Flood Insurance Reduction
James City County’s voluntary efforts to improve flood plain management resulted in a FEMA rating that will give some homeowners a reduction on flood insurance.
Homeowners who have flood insurance because they live in Special Flood Hazard Ares will automatically receive a 15 percent reduction on flood insurance if it’s issued or renewed after May 1.

JCCPRIDE Grant Program Accepting Applications
Applicants are being accepted through Sept. 13 for the James City County’s Protecting Resources in Delicate Environments (JCCPRIDE) Grant Program.
Neighborhoods, homeowners associations, businesses, clubs and stormwater management facility owners are eligible to apply for the grants, which range from $1,000 to $2,000 per project, through the program sponsored by the Stormwater Program Advisory Committee.
The program is aimed at aiding volunteer water quality restoration and protection projects in three grant categories:
- Stormwater Management Improvements Grants, given for structural enhancements of or construction of Best Management Practices, which are water pollution controls
- Maintenance Assistance Grants are awarded for stormwater facilities maintenance
- Drainage Improvement Assistance Grants are designed to encourage qualified organizations to seek solutions to drainage problems with County assistance.

New Entrepreneur Workshop Series
James City County has partnered with Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development to offer The Triangle Entrepreneur Exchange Workshop Series.
The first workshop in the series will be hosted from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Legacy Hall in New Town. Subsequent workshops will be hosted Oct. 16 and Nov. 20.
On Sept. 18, the workshop will feature Zee Worstell of AccelerateHER, who will focus on pricing services and maximizing earning potential in a workshop targeted at established and in-the-works entrepreneurs.
