This weekend there’s lots of stuff going on, including a First Friday art event in Williamsburg’s Arts District, a few good musical performances, and a special program at Historic Jamestowne. Read on for more!
The Arts
The Williamsburg Arts District (which now has a new logo, thanks to a recent contest) is hosting a First Friday event starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday. There will be live music, food and drinks, kids’ crafts and a bounce house and a raffle. Enjoy a fun time and visit local Arts District shops – the calendar has all the details on this event.
This Century Art Gallery’s Weekend Gallery is taking place this weekend. The weekend gallery gives folks a chance to meet local artists and view their work. Friday evening is a reception with live Irish musical guest 9 Points of Roguery. The calendar has all the extra information you need.
The Hard Road Trio plays an original Southwestern blend of Americana and Bluegrass music from the wide-open spaces of New Mexico. They’ll be performing in concert at the Williamsburg Library Theatre on Friday night as part of the Dewey Decibel Concert Series. You know where to look for the details – our calendar!
Also performing this weekend at the library theatre is Molasses Creek, a band whose high-energy acoustic music continues to win loyal followings from audiences that rave about their captivating stage presence, elegant harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and quirky sense of humor. Books and Talks
Constitutional Conversations, the award-winning nine-month long examination of our nation’s founding document, will continue its workshop series Thursday at the Williamsburg Regional Library. Participants will be divided into discussions on constitutional topics led by William and Mary law students. The session will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For the adult section, participants will examine “Influences: How has the United States Constitution Shaped the Rule of Law in Other Societies?” Check out the calendar link for details.
Each weekend, there are authors signing their books at the College of William and Mary Bookstore – visit the bookstore website and decide which authors you might like to meet.
Family Fun
Saturday is For the Birds Family Fun Day at the Virginia Living Museum! It’s a family event devoted to birds where guests get a chance to meet live birds of prey, see bird mounts, eggs and feathers form the museum’s collections, try building a bird nest and get moving with bird activities on the lawn (weather permitting). Guests can also make bird themed crafts and treats for birds and find out how to attract hummingbirds and songbirds to the backyard. This also is opening day for the new Children’s Play Area and the refurbished Children’s Learning Garden – visit the calendar to find out when to stop by.
History Happenings
The life and culture of 17th-century Virginia will come alive at Historic Jamestowne on Saturday during a special program called “Life at James Fort: Beyond the Walls.” Guests will get a chance to meet and interact with the English, Africans and Virginia Indians inside and around James Fort. The program takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the calendar to get all the information.
Odds and Ends
The Norge Small Animal Sale and Market is going on Saturday and Sunday. The event will feature craft vendors such as Firehouse Woodworking, After Dinner Lights, Spirit Beads Jewelry, Cuttin’ Capers, Snake Charmer Gear, Kitty’s Knits and Bits, and Your Welcome, as well as local produce and baked goods from Holly Fork Farm and Heidi’s Home Grown. Colonial Williamsburg’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum are offering local Bank of America cardholders free admission this weekend through the bank’s Museums on Us program. If you are a cardholder, make sure you take advantage of this treat! You’ll need to present your Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card along with a photo ID to gain free general admission to any participating institution. Cardholders only; guests are not eligible for free admission.
Verena at the Reserve is hosting a senior safety seminar on Friday. This meeting will cover how to prevent choking and burns, and also how to treat them, as well as how to lift properly. For more information, look on the calendar.
