Three local organizations – Hospice House, the local Community Action Agency and the Mason School of Business – are hosting fundraisers this month for local nonprofits.
Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg is hosting “A Walk to Remember” at 2 p.m. on April 20 at Governor’s Land. The event will feature a leisurely two-mile walk, followed by music by DJ Bobby Hornsby and plenty of dancing and refreshments.
Participants can walk to honor the memory of loved ones, or just to show support for the nonprofit. Register online by April 5 or by calling Hospice House directly at 253-1220. All hikers will receive a daypack with gifts and a raffle ticket for door prizes.
Hospice House offers 24-hour end-of-life care by trained staff for residents of Williamsburg, James City County, and the Bruton District of York County. Hospice House also offers support to patients who wish to remain at home, including respite for caregivers, assistance with transportation, equipment and supplies, and spiritual care and support. Families continue to receive support after the death of a loved one through bereavement counseling and support group activities.
Over 2000 individuals have received care through Hospice since 2002.
The Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary will host the 2nd Annual TribeFest for the Cure, a music festival benefitting the Tidewater affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
According to the event website, “it is truly an event for the whole community, as attendees included students from the College’s graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as members of the Williamsburg community both young and old.”
The event will feature face painting and moon bounces for kids, educational materials, a silent auction and a wine auction, live local bands, beer for adults and local food. Check out the website for details.
Last year’s inaugural event was attended by over 500 people and raised over $8,500 for breast cancer research, education, and advocacy – all while keeping the funds in the local area.
WYDaily and 92.3 The Tide are some of the many co-sponsors of the event that will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. on April 13 in the courtyard of Miller Hall at the College of William & Mary.
The Williamsburg-James City County Community Action Agency’s 10th Annual Community of Stars fundraiser is taking place the evening of April 26 at Colonial Heritage.
The nonprofit will be honoring several business, individuals and organizations that have helped by offering time or resources. Proceeds from the banquet will fund agency programs including Head Start and various youth, family and emergency services.
The event is semi-formal and will include a silent auction and a cash bar. Tickets are $50 per person, $90 per couple and $450 for a table of ten. To purchase tickets, contactYvonne Josephat 229-9332.
