Child Development Resources’ 35th Annual Bid ‘n Buy Auction fundraiser is coming up in a few weeks, and there are hundreds of items to bid on this year, as well as a new way of bidding.
Child Development Resources (CDR) is a comprehensive resource for physicians, teachers, and parents across the Historic Triangle. The nonprofit serves children and families and offers training programs to teach others how to do the same, and it also leads Virginia’s Infant & Toddler Specialist Network. The annual auction is one of the nonprofit’s main fundraisers.
This year’s auction is set for Sunday, March 24, at the Williamsburg Hotel & Conference Center. The silent auction begins at noon and the live auction starts at 2 p.m. This year’s event features a few changes that should make bidding easier and more fun, including online bidding and a new electronic bidding system. There will be over 500 items to bid on, from gift baskets to trips to gift cards and more.
For the first time, guests may begin bidding on selected items online before the auction starts by visiting the auction website. The site also has a preview of all the auction items and registration information for the event.
CDR will also be using an electronic bidding system for the first time this year, called BidPal. BidPal allows guests to bid on an item from anywhere in the room, with the convenient use of either a BidPal handheld device that will be given out by CDR staff or a smart phone.
Guests can preregister for a bidder number at the auction website using a credit card or register at the auction. “If you’re nervous about technology, don’t be,” according to the CDR newsletter about the event. “We’ll help get you set up and bidding!”
The auction will feature the Party Pantry, a CDR tradition that offers gift certificates for specialty dishes from some of Williamsburg’s best cooks. This year, Party Pantry features dozens dishes including hot crab dip and crackers, wild rice salad with cashews, sweet ‘n sour pork, Brunswick Stew, breakfast for eight, sour cream pound cake, and much more.

- Toys, meals and home improvements
- Tickets to W&M Sports
Live Auction items will include:
- Authentic Southern Pork BBQ Dinner for 50

- DJ for the Day at 92.3 The Tide
- Bed & Breakfast Getaway
