Hometown: Join Big Brothers Big Sisters to Bowl For Kids’ Sake

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Virginia Peninsula (BBBSGVP) is holding its signature fundraising event in February, called Bowl For Kids’ Sake.

“If you’ve never experience a Bowl For Kids’ Sake event, this should be your year to try,” said local chapter CEO Ayanna King. “We’ve got great grand prizes for the highest fund raisers and it promises to be even more fun than last year.”

All proceeds from this event will be used to support existing programs at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Virginia Peninsula has offered one-to-one mentoring relationships since 1979 in which a volunteer provides guidance and friendship to a child who needs a positive adult relationship outside of the child’s family. The local branch offers its services to residents of Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Poquoson, Gloucester, Hampton and Newport News.

A positive association with a mentor is influential in helping a child become a happy, responsible adult, according to the nonprofit.

For the Bowl For Kids’ Sake event, participants form bowling teams for a day of fun on the lanes. Each team is asked to raise $250 per team or $50 per individual. The event will take place this year from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at AMF Williamsburg Lanes on Old Towne Road.

Sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $500. All sponsors can form a team.
