More than 75 Crosswalk Community Church youth and leaders spent the afternoon working in the Grove community earlier this month.
The event, organized by Grove Christian Outreach Center (GCOC), helps families dispose of trash and provides free raking, mowing, yard cleaning and more. The aim is to “alleviate some of the burden of the families in our community,” according to GCOC Assistant Director Deena Walls.
“James City County has graciously waived the dumping fees for these events and volunteers spend the day engaging tangibly by serving families… It is such a privilege to lend a hand to a neighbor, to step outside of ourselves and really give to another; these youth spent their entire afternoon serving others and it was a beautiful sight!”
To get involved in a future Clean Sweep please contact Walls at [email protected]. It takes between 75 and 100 volunteers to make these events a success, according to Walls, so folks who are interested should have a good-sized group.
