Arts and Theater
Saint Bede Catholic Church is hosting “The Art of Sound,” a chamber brass music concert, Saturday evening. The concert will feature Trumpeter Carl Stanley, Trombonist Joshua Britton, Pianist Graeme Burgan, and the Southside Brass Quintet who will present a program of chamber brass music from the Canzon per sonare no. 2 by Gabrieli to Turrin’s Fandango for Trumpet and Trombone. The Williamsburg Classic Swing Orchestra, a 16-piece authentic big band, will be performing at the Kimball Theatre on Saturday. The WCSO plays all the best swing music from the height of the swing era, the 1930’s and 1940’s as well as some popular swing hits of today. The calendar has all the details.
The Williamsburg Youth Orchestras begin the 2012 season with an exciting performance by the String Orchestra on Sunday at the Kimball Theatre. The orchestra is conducted by Karey Sitzler and Symphony conducted by Music Director Dr. Paul Bhasin. The group will perform Irish Tune from County Derry by Grainger, Slavonic Dance No. 1 by Dvorak, and Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2. The calendar has more details.
William and Mary’s theater, speech and dance department is presenting the musical “Pippin,” which follows the life of the son of Charlemagne, leader of the Holy Roman Empire, as he struggles to find meaning in his life. Holiday and Craft Events
The Colonial Williamsburg annual Employee Fall Arts and Crafts Show is this weekend at the Historic Triangle Center! Crafts include woodworking, needlework, jewelry, leatherwork, florals, textiles, painting and much more. The calendar has more details.
This weekend is the Queens Lake Middle School Holiday Arts and Crafts Bazaar, which will take place at the school. This is a PTA-sponsored indoor holiday arts and crafts event that’s open to the public. It featured items from regional artists, artisans, and specialty vendors. There is also a silent auction and a children’s arts and crafts room is available for the kids. Here is the calendar link.
Family Goings-On
The Williamsburg Regional Library will celebrate Tellabration, the international day of storytelling, with a family storytelling event on Saturday afternoon in the Williamsburg Library Theatre. The program is free and no tickets are required. Members of the Weavers of the Word Storytelling Collaborative are the featured presenters and will tell stories about Nigerian Angry Birds, a mountain Jack tale and other stories from around the world. Fundraisers
Center Street Grill is hosting a fundraiser for Bacon Street this weekend; proceeds will support Bacon Street’s programs for youth and families. The dinner will take place Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Center Street Grill in New Town. Kari Velandria will perform live music before the meal begins. Admission is $50 per person and $55 at the door.
