A local woman will bring attention to addiction recovery this month by participating in a 160-mile foot race, staged over seven days through the Grand Canyon.
Jan Brown, executive director of the SpiritWorks Foundation Center for the Soul, is seeking to raise money for her organization through her participation in the Grand to Grand Ultra, a six-stage foot race through the Grand Canyon from Sept. 23 to 29.
SpiritWorks is a center for addiction recovery, devoted to helping recovering addicts rebuild their lives through life skills classes, group chat sessions and events. It also features a curriculum-based education program for children and youth growing up in families with or at risk for alcoholism or other drug addictions.
Brown, a professional recovery coach, will complete the Grand to Grand Ultra in honor of her 25th anniversary of recovery. She hopes her participation will bring addiction, mental illness and brain injury issues into the public’s awareness.
