Nine Garner All-CAA Honors; Both W&M Cross Country Teams Earn Top-3 Finishes at CAA Championships

(Tribe Athletics)

ELON, N.C. — William & Mary cross country garnered nine all-league selections and placed both teams among the top three at the CAA Championships on Friday afternoon at the Elon Cross Country Course.

The Tribe women’s program was the CAA runner-up, its best finish in six years, with 54 points, while Northeastern won the team title at 44. Elon was a close third at 63 points followed by Stony Brook in fourth (106) and Charleston in fifth (149). The Tribe led at the 4K mark behind a close pack of five racers in positions 8-12, but Northeastern rallied over the closing 2K to pull out its first team championship. The second-place finish is W&M’s best since winning its 23rd CAA title in 2018.

The men’s program finished in the top three at the CAA Championships for the 37th consecutive year and in the process had four athletes earn All-CAA honors, its most in three years.  It was a close race at the top as the first three teams were separated by just six total points. Stony Brook edged Northeastern, 48-49, for the team title just ahead of the Tribe’s 54 points. Monmouth was a distant fourth at 110, and host Elon rounded out the top five (127). Sophomore Hayes Trapp led the way for the men, finishing third overall in the race.

On the women’s side, W&M had five runners earn All-CAA honors, the program’s most since 2015. Three runners finished in the top 10 led by senior Arianna DeBoer, who was seventh at 21:13.5. It marked the third-straight top-10 effort at the CAA Championships for DeBoer and her third All-CAA nod in a row. After starting 11th following the opening 2K, the Tribe senior steadily moved up to seventh.

Senior Kyra Holland was close behind DeBoer in eighth place at 21:18.0 to earn All-CAA honors for the third time in her career.

Junior Catherine Garrison gave the Tribe three in the top 10 to garner All-CAA honors for the second year in a row. Garrison started 19th at the opening 2K and moved up nine places over the remainder of the race to finish 10th, one spot ahead of her positioning in last season’s CAA Championships.

Junior Sofia Istnick and freshman Molly Weithman rounded out the Tribe’s All-CAA performers and scoring lineup, taking 14th (21:29.6) and 15th (21:30.1), respectively. It was Istnick’s third All-CAA honor in cross country, while Weithman was the second-fastest rookie in the field.

After finishing 13th at the CAA Championships in his rookie season, Trapp moved up into the top five, placing third overall in a time of 24:42.1 in the men’s 8K. It was the best Tribe finish since Sam Pritchard was second in 2021. Trapp opened at sixth following the first 2K and steadily moved up to third by the 6K mark, where he held for the closing kick to once again earn All-CAA honors.

Redshirt freshman Carson Rackley was the highest finishing rookie in the championship field and gave the Tribe a second top-10 performer, taking ninth in a time of 25:09.9. The Green and Gold freshman was 15th after the opening 2K and improved each successive mark, before moving into the top 10 over the final 2K.

Senior Nate Jennings and sophomore Brendan DiStefano both earned All-CAA honors for the second-straight season. Jennings finished 11th at 25:14.5, while DiStefano came in a spot behind and less than a second later. Junior Luke Ellwood rounded out the Tribe’s scoring group in 19th at 25:42.1.
