NEWARK, Del. — William & Mary women’s tennis had its eight-match win streak come to an end at the hands of Delaware, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tribe (12-6, 4-1 CAA) received singles wins from graduate students Yu Chen (No. 2) and Mila Mejic (No. 3) as well as junior Alessandra Anghel (No. 4). The Blue Hens took the important doubles point with a tiebreaker win at No. 3 and then notched singles wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the CAA win.
How It Happened
- After a Delaware (16-6, 4-0 CAA) win at the top doubles position, the initial point of the match came down to tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3. Junior Ine Stange and Anghel claimed a 7-6 (4) win over Slade Coetzee and Paulina Jurkowska on line two to pull the Tribe even. The Green and Gold pair won its third in a row and improved to 4-1 on the year.
- The Blue Hens pulled out the third doubles spot in a tiebreaker to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
- At No. 4 singles, Anghel topped Alina Vasilenko, 6-2, 6-2, for her third-straight win. The Tribe junior improved to 13-4 overall, 5-1 in dual-match action and a perfect 4-0 in CAA play.
- Like Anghel, Mejic only dropped four total games in defeating Navya Vadlamudi, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3. She ran her win streak to seven, while upping her marks to 13-9 overall and 9-5 at No. 3. Mejic remained undefeated in CAA action at 5-0.
- Chen rounded out the Tribe singles wins, downing Eliza Askarova, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2. It was Chen’s fifth-straight win as she moved to 17-8 overall and 11-2 on line two.

The Tribe returns home for a pair of CAA matches next weekend. W&M welcomes Elon to the Mackesy Tennis Center on Saturday, March 13, at 1 p.m., before hosting league newcomer Campbell on Sunday, March 14, at noon. The contest with the Camels will also mark the Tribe’s Senior Day.
