W&M Lax Falls to Towson, 14-5

WILLIAMSBURG — The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to Towson, 14-5, at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The contest was knotted at 1-1 midway through the opening quarter, but the Tigers (6-7, 3-2) closed the half with a 9-1 run.

W&M (4-9, 0-4) opened the second half with a pair of goals to narrow the margin to 9-4, but Towson countered with five unanswered scores to pull away for the conference victory.

Tribe Standouts
Maresa Moyer and Paige Gilbert led the Tribe offensively with two goals apiece, while Sophia Chiodo Ortiz also found the back of the cage. Moyer also added three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Gilbert tallied three draw controls.

Claire Doto came up big defensively with a team-high four ground balls to go with two caused turnovers, while Kate Draddy posted three draw controls and two ground balls. Courtney Vasquenza also recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Inside the Numbers
Towson outshot W&M, 31-18, which included a 27-18 margin in attempts on goal.

The Tigers also owned advantages in draw controls (14-7) and ground balls (22-16), while they committed two fewer turnovers (15-17).

The Opposition
Lindsay Clarke led TU with seven points (3g, 4a), while Milana Zizakovic (4g, 1a) and Lindsey Marshall (3g, 2a) totaled five points apiece. Halley Koras added four points (3g, 1a).

Blair Goodrich led the Tigers defensively with four caused turnovers, three ground balls and four draw controls, while goalie Jo Torres posted eight saves and a .615 save percentage.

Notes
Draddy moved into sixth place on W&M’s single-season list for draw controls (55).

W&M will return to action when it hosts No. 15 Stony Brook at Martin Family Stadium on Thursday at 5 p.m.
