SPARTANBURG, S.C. — William & Mary men’s cross country placed four runners among the top 100 and finished 13th as a team at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships on Friday afternoon at the Milliken Research Park.
No. 5-ranked North Carolina won the NCAA Southeast Region Championship with 38 points just ahead of No. 28 Eastern Kentucky (72). NC State (106), No. 29 Wake Forest (137), and No. 13 Virginia (140) rounded out the top five. The Tribe entered the championship ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region before finishing two spots higher on Friday.
Freshman Hayes Trapp led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing in the top 50. The Green and Gold rookie was 73rd at the 2K mark and moved up 26 spots over the final 8K to placed 47th overall in the a time of 30:16.7.
Graduate student Patrick North just missed out on the top 50, finishing just six spots behind his teammate in 53rd place. He was 72nd at the 2K mark and moved up 21 posts over the remainder of the race, crossing the line in 30:21.7.
Sophomore Peyton Golden finished 70th at the regional in a time of 30:47.1. Like Trapp, he worked his way up the standing, improving 26 spots from his 96th position after the opening 2K.
Junior Nate Jennings rounded out the Tribe’s top-100 harriers at the region championships. He crossed the line in 31:10.6 to placed 93rd.
Sophomore Brendan DiStefano just missed giving the Tribe a fifth top-100 runner. He covered the 10K course in 31:23.8 to place 104th.
Senior Sam Pritchard and junior Zack Ericksen rounded out the Tribe runners at the regional. Pritchard finished 119th in a time of 31:43.4, while Ericksen was 186th at 33:50.9.
