RICHMOND — William & Mary junior midfielder Pyper Friedman was named the CAA co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Friedman shared the honor with Delaware’s Kiki Oudshoorn.
Friedman, who was a preseason All-CAA selection, scored twice in the first half to lift the Tribe to a 2-1 upset of No. 12-ranked Wake Forest on Friday. She opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before converting what proved to be the game-winner just before halftime off a penalty corner. It marked Friedman’s first career brace and her first game-winner.
The win over Wake Forest was the Tribe’s 12th against top-20 opponent under head coach Tess Ellis. It was also the Green and Gold’s first win over Wake Forest since 1997 and first in Winston-Salem since 1988. The Tribe knocked off a top-20 ACC opponent on the road for the second-straight season.
Friedman and the Tribe play a second-straight ACC opponent when it hosts No. 6 Virginia on Friday, Sept. 8. The match carries a 5 p.m. start time and will be broadcast on FloLive.
