RICHMOND — William & Mary men’s basketball freshman Charlie Williams was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Williams provided the foul-laden Tribe with a huge lift off the bench in a 69-67 win at UNCW on Saturday. The Carmel, Ind., native scored 12 of his career-high 15 points in the first half with W&M’s starting front court of Noah Collier and Ben Wight limited to 11 total minutes due to foul trouble.

The Tribe rookie also added four rebounds and an assist in 14 minutes of action. He was nearly perfect at 11-of-12 from the free throw line. It marked the fifth-most made free throws for a freshman in the country this season and the most for a rookie forward.

Williams and the Tribe return to action this afternoon when it takes on No. 22 Charleston. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from TD Arena and the game will be broadcast on FloHoops. Fans can also listen into the Tribe Sports Network and its flagship station the Tide 92.3 FM.
