W&M’s Caylin Newton Accepts Tropical Bowl Invite

(Tribe Athletics)

WILLIAMSBURG —After establishing himself as one of the nation’s top playmakers, William & Mary senior wide receiver Caylin Newton accepted an invitation to play in the Tropical Bowl.

Newton joins Colby Sorsdal (East-West Shrine Bowl) and Lachlan Pitts (Hula Bowl) as one of three Tribe standouts who will play in upcoming postseason all-star games in preparation for professional playing careers.

The Tropical Bowl will be played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando Fla., on Jan. 21.

A first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection as a specialist, Newton led W&M in receptions (37) and ranked second in receiving yards (537) and touchdown catches (three). Additionally, he averaged 14.5 yards per reception.

As a special teams standout, he ranked fifth in the CAA in punt return average (7.1) and totaled 11 solo tackles with a forced fumble.

Newton, Sorsdal and Pitts will look to join a group of four former Tribe standouts who are currently on NFL rosters – DeAndre Houston-Carson (Bears), Luke Rhodes (Colts), Bill Murray (Patriots) and Andrew Trainer (Chargers).
