Softball Roundup: Rochard Throws Another One-Hitter in Win Against Grafton

Warhill’s Keely Rochard continued her dominant season as she held Grafton to one hit during Tuesday’s 3-0 road win.

Rochard, who is coming off a one-hitter against Jamestown on Monday, struck out 11 batters in Tuesday’s one-hit performance.

Kieran McClure put Warhill on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI double into center field.

In the top of the third inning, Makayla Fannin successfully executed a bunt back to the pitcher’s circle that drove in Olivia Schulz.

The Lions posted their final run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Hayley Schulz hit into an RBI groundout that scored Jasmine Ortiz.

Warhill (14-1) will travel to play Poquoson on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Grafton (12-2) will look to rebound from its second loss of the season on the road against York on Friday.

Jamestown Outlasts Bruton

Jamestown successfully stole home twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a narrow 4-3 win at home against Bruton on Tuesday.

Bruton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Kelsey Sluss hit an RBI single into center field before later scoring on a Jamestown fielding error.

Jamestown responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning as Tara Rowden delivered a two-run double that tied the game at 2-2.

The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Rachel Brotherton successfully stole home.

However, that same type of play ultimately sunk the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Jamestown’s Arianna Reynolds and Rowden stole home for the game-winning runs.

Jamestown (5-11) will host Smithfield on Friday, while Bruton (1-12) faces a quick turnaround at home against Tabb on Wednesday.

Homers Lifts York Over Tabb

Home runs by Katie Russell and Devon Smith helped lift York to an 8-2 road win against Tabb on Tuesday.

Russell and Smith had identical stat lines, as both were 2-for-4 on the day with home runs and a pair of runs driven in.

After both teams traded runs in the first inning, York proceeded to score three runs in the top of the third inning and another three in the top of the fifth inning.

Leading 7-1, the Falcons tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning to close out the victory.

York (11-3) will host Grafton on Friday, while Tabb (6-6) will visit Bruton on Wednesday.

Lafayette Tops Poquoson in Extra-Inning Thriller

Paola Territo smacked a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning as Lafayette earned a 5-4 win at home against Poquoson on Tuesday.

Gabby Boesler opened the scoring for Lafayette with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.

The Rams built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Terito and Starr Patton drove in runs on back-to-back plate appearances.

Poquoson scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut into Lafayette’s lead, but the Rams responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Islanders scored two runs over the sixth and seventh innings to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Territo delivered a game-winning RBI single to left field that scored Julia Jones.

Lafayette (4-10) will face a tough road test against Tabb on Friday.
