An eight-run fifth inning propelled Tabb to a 9-1 season-opening victory against Smithfield at home Wednesday.
With the game tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Tabb blew the game open with an explosive offense.
Jake Berrena started the inning with a two-run double to left field that gave Tabb a 3-1 lead. Two at bats later, Brandon Marello also added a two-run double.
Gray Goodrich, who earned the win on the mound for Tabb, followed up Marello by getting on base due to an error, which also allowed a run to score.
Carter Wood later walked with the bases loaded, which brought home Marello. Wood reached home on a passed ball toward the end of the inning, a run which put Tabb up 9-1.
Tabb (1-0) will prepare to visit New Kent on Friday.
