Tabb has made a habit of reaching the state tournament over the past seven years.
That streak has officially been extended to eight years as the Tigers clinched their spot in the Group 4A state tournament after blanking Western Albemarle 5-0 at home during Thursday’s Group 4A West championship game.
The Tigers faced little resistance from Western Albemarle in what, on paper, seemed more like a regular-season game than a conference championship game.
Tabb scored twice in the first half to hold a 2-0 advantage at the break before adding three more goals in the second half to secure the win and conference title.
With a conference championship in hand, Tabb guarantees itself a top seed in the upcoming Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship, which is being played Nov. 13 and 14 in Virginia Beach. The Tigers will face off against the runner-up from the Group 4A East tournament.
