After an inauspicious beginning to Thursday’s road game against Jamestown, Grafton found its rhythm and cruised to a 41-21 win over the Eagles.
On Grafton’s opening drive of the game, the Clippers fumbled the ball and allowed Jamestown’s Demarjia Lewis to return the fumble 65 yards for the game’s opening score.
After the early blunder, Grafton got it into gear to score two touchdowns before the end of the first quarter — a quarterback keeper by DJ Dobbins and a punt return touchdown by Demetrius Moore.
The Clippers continued the strong play in the second quarter with two more touchdowns to build a 28-7 halftime advantage.
Moore added to his stellar defense and special teams play Thursday night when he forced a pick-six for the third quarter’s only score.
A fourth quarter touchdown by Grafton put the game out of reach and allowed the Clippers to substitute reserve players into the game.
With backups in the game for Grafton, Jamestown added two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the score respectable.
Grafton Coach Matt McLeod said the win was not pretty, but he was pleased to walk away with a win at the end of the day.
The Clippers (6-3) have won back-to-back games heading into their final regular-season game of the season, a road showdown with Smithfield on Nov. 6.
Jamestown (1-7) will face a quick turnaround as the Eagles prepare to play a makeup game at home against Warhill on Tuesday.
