Jamestown controlled the pace of play en route to a 5-0 home win against Heritage in the Conference 18 quarterfinal round Monday.
The Eagles struggled to get into an offensive rhythm early in the game, but Jamestown Coach Jen Schrum said the team found its passing groove as the game went along.
Taylor Croyle scored the game’s opening two goals, which propelled the Eagles to a 2-0 halftime advantage over Heritage.
In the second half, Johanna Perkins, Abby Smith and Maddie Clevinger added goals for Jamestown in the lopsided win.
Jamestown (6-9-1) is playing its best field hockey of the season as of late, having won three consecutive games.
Schrum said she is hopeful the Eagles can carry the momentum from their past three games into Tuesday’s Conference 18 semifinal game at Grafton.

Warhill Blows Past Spotsylvania
It took Warhill nearly 17 minutes to find its first goal, but once the Lions found the back of the net they kept rolling during a 7-0 rout against Spotsylvania in the Conference 25 quarterfinals Monday.
The Lions struggled to score through the first quarter of the game because of Spotsylvania’s defense, which was packed tightly in the circle and made shooting lanes scarce for Warhill attackers.
A timeout from Warhill Coach Kristen Castano allowed the Lions to switch up their game plan and move to shorter passes within the circle. The move worked to perfection as Katelyn Lassiter scored out of the break.
From there, it was all Warhill. The Lions poured in five more goals over the remaining 12 minutes of the first half to carry a 6-0 advantage into halftime.
A second-half goal from Braelyn Lassiter proved the final score of the night as the game ended with 15 minutes left in the second half due to the Virginia High School League six-goal rule.
With the win, Warhill (10-4) will advance to play Hopewell in the Conference 25 semifinals Tuesday. The game will be played at Poquoson Middle School.

Lafayette Cruises Past Denbigh
Lafayette put together a dominating performance against Denbigh at home Monday in the Conference 18 quarterfinals.
The Rams held Denbigh without a shot en route to a 6-0 victory that ended with four minutes left in the second half because of the VHSL six-goal rule.
Despite the lopsided score, Lafayette came out of the gates slowly in the first half. The Rams placed 20 shots on goal in the game, but entered halftime with a narrow 1-0 advantage.
After a pep talk from Lafayette Coach Chris Jones at halftime, the Rams came out and dominated in the second half.
Leading the Rams was Kelsey Huckins, who put together a hat trick in the win. Lauren Walker chipped in two goals, while Emaline Carr also added one.
