Historic Triangle Teams Prosper at William & Mary Cross-Country Invitational

Grafton’s boys cross-country team took first place during the 57th annual William & Mary Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The Clippers routed the competition, which included 26 total teams, with a team score of 91, which bested second-place Maggie Walker with 147 points.

Other Historic Triangle teams placed well in the boys race, with Warhill and Tabb finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Lafayette rounded out the boys teams with 12th place.

While the Rams finished 12th overall as a team, Lafayette’s Konrad Steck finished first in the boys varsity race with a time of 15:59. Grafton’s Price Owens also earned a top-three finish, taking third overall with a time of 16:11.

Grafton’s Dylan Lorio-MacNamara finished the race in seventh place with a time of 16:27, while Tabb’s Preston Klekar rounded out the top-10 with a time of 16:44.

Warhill placed two runners in the top 20 with Daniel Cretney (16:50) finishing 14th and Matthew Hrncir (17:06) taking 19th.

The final three Grafton runners to score in the meet were Miles Owens (17:12) in 23rd, Brandon Tackling (17:14) in 26th and Dylan Comer (17:22) in 33rd.

In the girls division, Historic Triangle runners also saw plenty of success.

Tabb’s girls team finished third overall and four points behind Glen Allen in second place. Grafton took sixth place, Lafayette finished eighth and Warhill finished 19th.

Lindsey Blanks of Tabb won the girls varsity race with a time of 18:43, while Lafayette’s Delaney Savedge finished in third place with a time of 19:28. Savedge’s teammate Brooke Crookston logged a ninth-place finished in 19:52.

Grafton’s Maya Caden finished in 14th place with a time of 20:00, while Warhill’s Hannah Hrncir was one spot behind her with a time of 20:01.
