Volleyball Roundup: Grafton Sweeps Bruton

grafton logoThe Grafton volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2015 season, defeating Bruton in straight sets at home Thursday evening 25-10, 25-19, 25-19.

Grafton dominated play in the first set, but got pushed harder in the second and third sets by the Panthers.

Sam Heard paced Grafton with 11 digs, nine kills and four aces, while Sophia Beaudoin had nine kills, four digs, three blocks and an ace. Haley Sutton chipped in nine assists and three digs.

For Bruton (0-2), Gabby Calloway returned after rolling her ankle against Tabb and recorded 10 digs and five kills. Mykael Johnson had five digs and three kills, while Alexa Woolson added six assists.

Grafton (2-0) will continue its season at home against Tabb on Tuesday, while Bruton will travel to New Kent on the same day.

New Kent Bests Tabb

After a strong showing by Tabb in the first set, New Kent rallied to win three consecutive sets and ultimately take the match 24-26, 25-9, 25-12, 25-22.

Led by Abby Carney, who finished the match with 15 assists, 10 digs, 5 kills and a block, the Tigers were able to outlast the Trojans during the first set.

However, Sydney Griffith and her New Kent teammates proved too much to handle over the next two sets, which the Trojans won convincingly.

The fourth set was tightly contested, but Tabb (0-2) was unable to force a fifth set as the Trojans (2-0) earned a road victory.

New Kent def. Tabb 24-26, 25-9, 25-12, 25-22

WCA Blows Past Suffolk Chrisitan

Williamsburg Christian Academy took down Suffolk Christian 25-12, 25-10, 25-13 at home Thursday night.

The Eagles never struggled to contain Suffolk Christian, winning all three sets comfortably.

Patricia Davie led Williamsburg Christian Academy (2-2) with 16 service points, 10 digs and seven kills. Emily Jutras and Jordan Wright each added 10 service points.

The Eagles will travel to Hampton Christian Academy on Friday at 5:15 p.m.
