The York boys soccer team scored six goals during the first 12 minutes of Friday’s game against Group 2A school Northampton.
The game, which was played at Bailey Field, finished 9-0 and was stopped with 20 minutes left in the second half per a Virginia High School League rule that ends a game if one team holds an eight-goal lead at least 20 minutes into the second half.
York (5-0) jumped on Northampton early and often, scoring the first goal of the game 40 seconds into the first half. The Falcons found the back of the net three times in the first four minutes of play.
“Everything happened back to back so fast,” York coach Ryan Hagerty said about his team’s first-half flurry. “I couldn’t keep track of all the goals. It was a barrage the first couple of minutes.”
Hagerty subbed in reserve players after York’s lead grew to 6-0.
“I started subbing people in once we got six,” he said. “I let a lot of guys play tonight. It’s good to get those guys some minutes. You never know when you’ll need them late in the season.”
Karsten Faciszewski paced the Falcons with three goals, while Joe Riddick and Bailey McClure scored two goals apiece. Cameron Dail and Gavin Homan each added goals.
Max Poelker had four assists on the evening, while Alasdair Thomson added three more. McClure and Garrett Gonzalez each chipped in an assist.
The Falcons will play New Kent at home 7 p.m. Monday.
